checklist

Pilots use it; some doctors use it.  The benefits of its use have been documented.  What is it? A simple checklist. Are you taking advantage of it?

My sister and her husband are pilots. Each time I fly with them they pull out their pre-flight checklist.  Even with hours of experience, they use a checklist.  Why would experienced pilots who have initiated flights hundreds of times, still use a checklist? They know that for complicated activities, the brain needs support be to accurate.  Look at these research results.

No matter what sector your company is in, the fact is that technology is now at the heart of most everything we do. Accordingly, 63 percent of CEOs surveyed by PwC in 2015 said they use digital tech for strategic decision-making and risk management.

However, the 2016 Watermark Board Diversity Index found that the number of CEOs who come from a tech background is surprisingly low – only 3 percent, as opposed to 55 percent with accounting or legal backgrounds.

The question is: does a modern CEO *need* to be a tech whiz?

Empower a culture that seizes crises as opportunities to drive brand resilience

A familiar story is on the front pages every few months — a CEO ousted from a company, a tarnished brand and customers flocking away to their competitors. The untold story is of the thousands of CEOs that excel at managing and cultivating a company’s brand and reputation. They strategically make sure they avoid scandal, and if a crisis does spring up, they are prepared to tackle it.

Purpose and profit aren’t mutually exclusive. In fact, they are married. Organizations that work from a sense of purpose consistently create high shareholder returns.

Purpose starts with intention, and it isn’t just about altruism. It centers on creating value for customers, the community, and the enterprise itself. Companies that are clear about purpose, and stay aligned with it, are far more likely to triumph in the long term.

leadership, holidays

A text from the executive said a lot: “Was going to write emails on plane. Now flight cancelled. Driving family to Colorado. Wish me luck.”

The “luck” of which the leader was referring, of course, was the realization that he would be confined to a car . . . with his family . . . for an extended-period-of-time.

For anyone who walks into their home well after the dishes have been cleared from dinner, says hello to kids on his or her way to check evening emails, then leaves in the morning for the office before anyone awakes; such a family trip could seem daunting.
